Samuel Bey is a Belgian artist with a deeply entrenched fascination for circus, object design and inventions. His first chapter as an artist began in 2001 as a young juggler, Bey honed his performance skills for years and modeled his own world of interests - which led to master’s degrees in Architecture and Product Development. After his studies, Samuel taught circus for several years and created youth productions. He eventually took his love of both objects (from study to design) and circus and fused them into innovative performances. With the production No Way Back, his first piece as creator, performer and co-founder of the circus company Duo Berlingo, Samuel put a new stamp on the circus genre with gusto and a refreshing load of humanity. Since 2017, Bey has been touring international and continues to build on developing his own work and future collaborations.
Samuel Bey is een Belgische artiest met een diep verankerde fascinatie voor circus, objectontwerp en uitvindingen. Zijn eerste hoofdstuk als kunstenaar begon in 2001 als jonge jongleur, Bey schaafde jarenlang aan zijn performance-skills en boetseerde een eigen wereld van interesses – wat leidde tot de opleidingen Architectuur en Productontwikkeling. Na zijn studies gaf Samuel enkele jaren zelf circusles en maakte jeugd producties. Hij nam uiteindelijk zijn voorliefde voor zowel objecten (van studie tot ontwerp) als het circus in handen en versmolt ze tot innovatieve voorstellingen. Met de productie No Way Back, zijn eerste stuk als maker, speler en medeoprichter van het circusgezelschap Duo Berlingo, drukte Samuel een nieuwe stempel op het circusgenre met bakken gusto en een verfrissende lading menselijkheid. Sinds 2017 toert Bey internationaal en timmert hij verder aan het ontwikkelen van eigen werk en toekomstige samenwerkingen.
